Reel them in! Reel them in!
There's a man on the wharf and he's out today for a mean haul.
Do you see his bait? How shiny! How tantalizing! You could almost take a bite.
Never-mind that it's plastic.
The daft fishes can't tell anyway.
Problem is that the wharf is so cramped that the man is jostled around by the crowd that most times he can barely move.
And they've all got bait too.
Large, shiny, glistening and certainly better than his.
The fish have so many choices they can have a munch on anything their hearts desire.
The sharp jarring hook doesn't catch up with them till later.
The man sometimes wonders why he bothers at all.
(an experimental poem/story, i don't go fishing)
