A short list of mundane things that bring me joy

even though most of the time i find myself intolerably miserable I somehow do manage to discover pockets of happiness in between all the doom and gloom. And perhaps with the way things are, finding something ...hell, anything to be happy about is the new act of rebellion.

  1. Evening sunlight, it just has a certain atmospheric mood to it. It feels almost melancholic but with a strange sense of joy. I can't quite explain but it puts me in a different state of mind. Since I was a child even.

  2. The smell of rain, This one is also a mood shifter. Dare I say in the same way but definitely more peaceful and soothing particularly with the constant noise of it. I also like being out in the rain with no care for a rain coat or anything that would even provide decent warmth. As a 12 year old I'd even take off my shoes in the rain and walk through the gutter and large puddles. I really just didn't give a shit and wanted to fully experience the weather no matter my parents horrified looks when i walked through the door like a soaked bedraggled dog.

  3. Hot chocolates with marshmallows, they're the best combo in the world and make everyday life a little more sweet and a little more whimsical. I have a bag of them to go with my beloved drink however it's running low and I'll be a little bit sadder when it inevitably ends.

  4. late-night long-board rides, well I should say early morning because they usually occur between 2-4am. Whenever I muster up the energy I like to take my wheels to the street for a little bit of smooth sailing freedom. With the wind in my face the whole world becomes liminal and peaceful and everything belongs to me for a few brief moments, I've written some killer poetry when going on rides with Julius Cruiser (the name of my long-board) The exploration, the quiet, the feeling...there's really nothing like it.

  5. Discovering new music, when I find songs i like i tend to let it consume me so when I'm in an explorative mood all the new sounds just make me transcend to a higher plane (not actually spiritual but you catch my drift,no?) There's nothing like going down a rabbit-hole of niche genres that captivate the eye or coming across tunes you didn't expect to like.
